Presidents Address
I am greatly honoured to have been elected as your National President for 2010. I have to express my thanks to both my home club, Langtoft Pearl and to my county of Northamptonshire for the help and support. Looking at the long list of names that have held this prestigious post in the past then I can see that I have a lot to live up to.
When I was first introduced into our wonderful game, by my parents Ken and Marjorie, the one thing that remains very much in my mind is that I was told that when you make a friend at bowls then they remain a friend for life. Having met many bowlers that make up our federation I am pleased to say that I have found that statement to be very true and hope to add new names to the list of friends as I travel during my year of office.
I consider myself to be very lucky to have two great guys as part of my team, namely Stewart Milner as Deputy President, and a very dear friend in Mick Warriner as the new Junior Deputy. I look forward to spending a lot of time enjoying their company. I also am very lucky to work with such a great team that makes up your executive committee.
As President I am extremely fortunate to have the full backing and support from my wife Maureen, and I can honestly say that never in all our years of marriage has she ever uttered those words feared by male bowlers, “Oh you’re not bowling again”.
I look forward to working with the EWBF President Geraldine Reeve who I am positive will do a great job for the Ladies, and am certain that we will make this a very enjoyable year for us both. She too has a great team in Lorna Dockerill as Deputy President and Margaret McManemy as Junior Deputy President.
I look forward to seeing many of you at Newark and Skegness as well as visiting you at your county matches and presentation evenings.
Can I wish you all a happy, healthy and successful 2010.
Richard Montgomery
President , English Bowling Federation
